Getech Ensures Hash Carries On On!

Getech was delighted to help sponsor the recent 27th Oil Industry Hash, held by the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain (PESGB), Surrey Branch.

This industry event continues a long tradition of annual hashes in Surrey, which was established by returning oil company expatriates from Phillips Petroleum and then Alistair MacArthur of Mobil. Now, it is the PESGB Surrey Branch that enthusiastically brings all levels of runners and walkers together for a fun evening of exploring both the Surrey countryside and some of its hostelries.

The run this week was, as ever, a chance for the membership of the PESGB to come together and network while enjoying an outdoor activity as the sun set over the Surrey Hills.

Runners chased a ‘hare’ – which had conveniently left a trial of flour – through fields and woods, turning back when they discovered a barred or incorrect route.

Whilst everyone started together, after a few kilometres people chose either to follow the 5km or 10km trail: designed so that everyone could be challenged.

There were also plenty of opportunities for stopping, to wait for keen runners to check out the route ahead, or to marvel at the beauty of the Surrey countryside. Although, when the traditional hash shout of “On, on!” was heard, meaning the scouts had found correct route, then it was time for everyone to get moving again.

Sarah-Jane Kelland, Getech’s Head of Geoscience Services and PESGB Surrey Branch organiser, explains why Getech chose to sponsor this event: “At Getech we recognise the importance of supporting UK oil and gas industry events and keeping the tradition of the annual Oil industry Hash alive is no exception.

This summer event in the PESGB’s calendar allowed the members to reflect on the current optimism in the industry while enjoying an activity in a beautiful and relaxed setting, as well as re-connecting with colleagues past and present.
