As we have just released version 2.1 of Unconventionals Analyst for ArcGIS Pro, I’d like to highlight some of my favorite new features so you can check them out when you install the latest software…
1 – Analyze Well Relationships tool
A big challenge in the industry at the moment is identifying initial well/in-fill well relationships to predict performance interference and recovery reduction. In response to this, we created the Analyze Wells Relationships tool which identifies such ‘parent/child’ relationships between wells within a layer based on both spatial and temporal data. The tool does this by identifying any ‘drained area’ overlap and analyzing drilling dates. Output from the tool include ‘bound’ and ‘unbound’ status; oldest offset status and distances; and the number of ‘unbound’ production days per well. This powerful combinatorial analysis enables detailed interrogation of a drilled or modeled campaign, identifying exploitable areas or sub-optimal production.
2 – Calculate Lateral Spacing tool
Do you ever need to work out the lateral spacing between a set of wells in a type curve area? Use Unconventionals Analyst’s new Calculate Lateral Spacing tool to quickly calculate spacing statistics between all the wells in your area of interest, allowing you to assess the efficiency of the previously drilled wells or a set of planned wells against the ideal spacing measure.
3 – Calculate Overlaps tool
We pride ourselves on listening to our customers and being responsive to their evolving requirements, and this is another customer request that we’ve implemented. When you’ve modeled an infill drilling campaign, you may want to analyze how the infill wells overlap any pre-existing wells (or another modeled set of wells). Using the new Calculate Overlaps tool allows you to do that very quickly.
4 – Enhanced Create Well Sticks tool
Coming in at number 4, an old favorite which we have enhanced to make even more useful. The Create Well Sticks tool now has a new method called “Leases (Distribute)” which allows you to maximize the well stick coverage across your leases by shortening the length of wells in certain ‘slots’. This provides considerably more control over the well pattern and fill – especially useful when fitting well sticks in dog-leg or tapering leases.
5 – Capturing input settings as attributes
Finally, and in response to customer feedback, we have upgraded many of our tools to capture the input settings used when running a tool as values in the output attribute table. This allows you, for example, to interrogate a well sticks pattern that was created in the past and understand exactly what settings you (or a colleague) used to create it. Great for an audit trail!
