Getech, the natural resource exploration experts have once again supported the students from the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds, by donating to their annual end of year prize-giving ceremony.
Mohamed A. Alwahedi won the Getech Prize for the Best Independent Research Project in Geophysical Sciences at BSc level for his work on “Postseismic slip following intermediate-magnitude earthquakes”, whilst Francois Tremblay of Canada was awarded the MSc Exploration Geophysics Getech Prize for the Best Overseas Student Performance, with his exploration of “The integration & validation of microseismic dynamic parameters with geomechanical models”.
Sarah-Jane Kelland, Principal Geoscientist for Getech explained why her company felt it was important to support the geology students with these awards; “By rewarding technical success, students are inspired to challenge and extend their learning which enables geological thinking to advance. We also benefit by learning new ideas from them, allowing us to keep up to date with research in our key areas of interest”.
