The interest of the global oil and gas industry has been drawn to South America recently by the announcement late last year that Argentina will hold an offshore bidding round in 2018.
In anticipation of the licensing round, The Getech Group, providers of natural resources exploration data and information expertise, has released the “Tectonic Evolution and Source Rock Assessment of Offshore Argentina” Regional Report containing project-ready GIS data and geological analysis.
Comprising of GIS data, geological analysis and video animations, the new Regional Report will ensure that interested exploration companies and organisations can quickly get up-to-speed on this under-explored region and make more informed decisions in response to the Argentina offshore licensing round.
Compiled by Getech’s expert geologists, the data and analysis illustrate and explain the geological evolution of the region, from early basin rifting to the complete rifting of the South Atlantic, and the impact this had on source rock deposition, preservation and maturity within the Argentine offshore basins. In developing the information and analysis Getech staff drew from the company’s unique gravity and magnetic databases to build a structural framework and crustal architecture interpretation which was then integrated with Getech’s own Global Plate Model. The resulting analysis provides key insight into the source, reservoir and seal distribution across the region.
As reported recently by news agency Reuters, ex-Director of oil supermajor Shell and Argentina’s Minister for Energy, Juan Jose Aranguren was quoted as saying; “There is a high probability that the subsalt basin that exists on the coast of Brazil continues south and so we see the discovery of any formation of oil and conventional gas in the area as very attractive. It could be very profitable for the country,”
