Zach Harlan joined Getech at the beginning of the year. Working in our Sales Team and based out of our Houston office, Zach’s focus is engaging with the Petroleum sector in across the US and Americas. We asked Zach a few quick questions to get to know him better:
1. Can you tell us a bit about your background and what drew you to the energy sector?
I spent some time in the lifting and rigging industry, and the steel industry before that. As a native Houstonian, the energy sector has always been my neighbor. I’ve always appreciated its role as a cornerstone of the economy in Texas and across the US, and I’m excited to now be supporting companies within this industry.
2. What excites you most about joining Getech?
My excitement comes from truly believing in what we do. I believe in the software and the real-world solutions it delivers for customers. I get to promote products I genuinely support and work alongside teams I want to see succeed.
I also love the culture here. From my first interactions, I was impressed with the calibre of people. And users of the software consistently speak highly of their experience with Getech’s ‘can-do’ philosophy and our people behind it.
3. What makes Getech’s offering valuable for operators today?
Operators are trying to do more with less and maximize efficiency and, for example, I’ve seen our Unconventionals Analyst software cut client workflows from hours to minutes, in some cases reducing six-month tasks to two weeks. That kind of time-saving impact makes a real difference for GIS professionals on both operational and investment teams.
4. What challenges do your customers face in geoscience data or field development?
Manual workflows are a common obstacle: they demand time and effort that teams simply don’t have, especially when working around surface or subsurface constraints. These often force GIS professionals to redo entire workflows as new information comes to light. Operators want to move out of the planning phase faster, with consistent and trusted solutions. That’s where our tools shine.
5. You’re based in Houston – how important is local presence when supporting clients across the Americas?
I believe local presence is incredibly important to both our customers and Getech. I’ve had some great in-person meetings that made the work very rewarding. Sitting down with customers, asking questions and learning how they use our tools is the best way to understand their needs.
Getech is a global company that works like a local partner. Our support and technical teams are hands-on and collaborative. We’re geologists and geoscientists working directly with our clients, and my role is to help build those local connections.
6. What’s one tip you’d give to companies looking to improve their use of GIS in exploration workflows?
This might sound like a typical sales answer, but: trial the software. Whether it’s Unconventionals Analyst, Data Assistant or Exploration Analyst, the trial license gives you a chance to test our tools on a real project. We offer demos, tool-specific tutorials and full support throughout the process.
